Today we can sleep late, our alarmclock isn’t supposed to sound before 7.45 a.m.. Trudy, however, has risen and shined well before that time and opens the window to let in some fresh air at 7.15 and it doesn’t take long before I am brutally yanked from dreamland by car horns in the streets belo…

The trip to Mandalay was quite the experience. Bus rides are always an adventure in Myanmar. If you make it from your starting location to your destination without breaking down or getting a flat, consider yourself lucky. On this trip, not only did we get 2 flat tires, but around …

The bus ride up from Rangoon took a miserable 18 hours. It was very disheartening to see the teams of what had to be forced laborers breaking rocks by hand on the roadsides. At one town, the bus broke down and the driver and a few looky-loo's popped open the engine cover to examine…

After breakfast we snaked our way down the fairly terrible mountain road for a while before getting stopped at another huge line of backed up trucks. Seems there was a landslide due to the nonstop rain and men wearing only longyis and sandals were busily swinging sledge hammers breaking u…

People i met here who contributed to, and improved my trip: Julia (Russia)
After the 13 hour train ride from Hsipaw, all we were interested in was finding a bed, any bed, to lie down in and fall asleep. As it turned out, the hotel that we had previously stayed in had no double rooms left and the h…

The journey to Mandalay was more of an adventure than we were anticipating. To begin with we had to take an alternative route in the taxi due to flooding near Inle Lake during the night and had to intercept the bus at a village further along. Initially we were pleased to have caught the…

I decided to go to Myanmar to experience a bit of culture and tradition which seems so much closer to India. Burmese culture is more Buddhist influenced and the way of life is much simpler than India, but still you can find some of the traditional way of life is closer to the Indian way. If given a choice to visit any country once again, I wouldn’t think twice to visit this wonderful country with amazing people.

Mandalay the second largest city in Myanmar is home to many ancient cities that are only a day trip away. Arriving at Mandalay's large international airport, I was a bit nervous as I caught a taxi into town. The taxi was old, the roads were bad, the roads were dark, I had another 3 locals in the ba…
