Secret meetings Apr 12, 2013
Another cafe in Melbourne's infamous coffee lane-ways. Obscure signage, dead-end lane, we would have walked straight pass is if we had not google mapped it. Some TV crew were using the alley for filming and after tip-toeing our way through the collection of filming equipment, we finally arrived at the door.
Concrete floors, graffiti wall, wooden counters... refurbished and jazzed up garage??? Industrial chic. Fashionably dressed professionals next to artsy student types...definitely a Melbourne cafe at it's best.
Was nearing 10 but having skipped morning coffee, was in dire need of some sustenance. Quickly ordered coffees, a 12 hour roasted pull pork with lettuce, BBQ sauce & homemade apple-slaw on a sesame bagel ($14) and, a smoked salmon, dill cream cheese & baby capers on a plain bagel ($13).
Not a fan of smoked salmon so that did nothing for me. The pork however did catch my attention. Loved the sweetness and the tangy-ness in the pork. Maybe it's from the apple-slaw? An appealing combination, perfect harmony of flavors.
Latte had a subtle nutty aftertaste. Creamy. Beautiful.
Great coffee and a need to feel hip, cool, yuppie or uber professional? This is the place ;-)
