Worth a Look Around Mar 26, 2015
So I'll admit it right from the start, I'm not a massive art lover. I do like to have a look around art galleries but I don't understand them. I'll never be that person who can stare at a painting for a good 10 minutes. I'm the kind of person who looks at it and goes "oh that's pretty" or "hmm, not sure about that" and moves on. So bare this in mind, this review is coming from a 'normal' person who doesn't know too much about art.

But when an art gallery is free and I have the time I do like to have a quick look and so when I walked past this gallery I decided to head inside. It was actually bigger than it looked from the outside. And while I couldn't tell you if the gallery is home to any important pieces of art, I can tell you there were a variety of different pieces to look at. And like most art galleries the building itself was just stunning!

What I found interesting about this place though was the fact that downstairs there was a room showing off some dresses made in cotton. I get that Manchester once played an important part in the cotton industry it was still kinda strange to see it inside the art gallery!

Pretty decent collection Aug 13, 2011
Situated not too far from Manchester Piccadilly train station, this free art gallery houses a good collection of art that stems from the medieval period right up to more modern stuff. Although the museum isn’t famous for having an amazing collection for a specific art genre, or a certain famous artist, it’s a great art collection to look through nonetheless. I particularly liked the paintings from the Victorian and nineteenth century periods. The descriptions are very good too and make you think deeper about the painting. On the top floor, there was quite a collection too - from a medieval Italian painting of Madonna and Christ to chairs that are certainly no older than the 1960s or 1970s. It houses quite a diverse collection of material! Worth a quick visit at least if you are in Manchester.
