This day really just crept up on all of us. It is as if we had forgotten about our lives before that first day when we set our feet inside the rainforest. We had adapted. We had even become accustomed to each others little habits. I may even find it difficult to sleep without hearing Deuzimar snori…

Upon arrival in Manaus I was unvulantairily greeted by a Swiss guy turned Brazilian due to a unplanned baby 20 years earlier.  He tried to sell me a jungle tour with his worn pictures the entire bus ride into town.  I did go with him to the agency that he was recommending (iguan…

I went to see the medic on board to see if I could get any pills to help me sleep (I've been having trouble with my malarone) - she said she could help me, but would contact a doctor on land first to authorise the issue. I go back to the office. 2 hours later, a panicking office monkey tells me…

Manaus was our introduction to Brazil, and it was a budget-traveller's dream: huge steaming plates of food for next to nothing, bustling markets for buying fruit, vegetables, backpacks, hammocks - you name it, and even an ornate rubber-boom opera house.  It was here that we also launched our "…

We found our boat among the masses of huge passenger and cargo boats in the dock that would be home for the next 36 hours. The sleeping deck was already packed with hammocks, people and luggage but we managed to find a good spot and gave our new hammocks their first home. …

After an almost 4 hours flight we arrived to Manaus. Why didn’t we take a direct flight to Caracas? Well, because we were looking for special hours. Anyway, I couldn’t complain about it. The flight might be long, but wasn’t bad at all. We flew with TAM, which is a good Brazilian airline. It w…
