Manarola Overview

Situated between Riomaggiore and Corniglia in Cinque Terre, Manarola is one of the larger villages here, but still quite petite compared to just about anything else. Historians believe this was the first settlement of Cinque Terre and many believe it is the most beautiful, dramtically perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Fishing and wine making have been the main industries for centuries, only recently knocked back one notch by tourism. Wine making is embodied by sciacchetrà, a sweet dessert wine, only produced within the region...perfect with a piece of biscotti! The fishing industry is made apparent by many boats, parked like vehicles along the main street in town!

Being one of the bigger villages, there are plenty of dining options here and Manarola is one end of Via Dell Amore, the 'lover's lane' connecting the village to Riomaggiore. Though you won't find a sand beach, there is a wonderful swimming hole by the harbor with ladder and shower facilities. A terrific and picturesque spot!
