Expensive but well appointed Jan 30, 2016
Situated on the coastal road close to the US Embassy is the Mamba Point Hotel. Hotels in Monrovia are few and far between and consequently the price reflects this, in no way could this be considered a budget option. It was one of few hotels where a booking could be made online before my departure, the booking confirmation can serve as your letter of invitation when arranging your Liberian visa.

The hotel itself is well appointed with comfortable rooms, a swimming pool,a good balcony around the restaurant and bar where you can watch the sun go down. In the lobby is an ATM machine that dispenses US dollars.

The breakfast was of good quality and featured Lebanese cuisine as well as the standard breakfasts.

Across the road are a number of stalls that sell souvenirs from the none too pushy vendors and behind these there is the beach that has a selection of bars that can get very lively.

The only noticeable things were firstly the hand washing station as you entered the hotel. Secondly there were lots of UN health workers resident here.

Secure Hotel in Monrovia Apr 09, 2009
Hotel options in Monrovia are limited. The Mamba Point Hotel is one of the few safe options available.

It's located next to the US Embassy in the safest part of town. The hotel is primarily filled with UN and NGO (non governmental organization) staff.

The rooms were a bit utilitarian. The central courtyard was not landscaped and guest-friendly.

The staff seemed at times indifferent to my presence. I tried smiling and engaging in conversation but my attempts were rarely successful. If you need something (another beer, the check) you have to speak up. The food was just okay, nothing special. I didn't get sick so that's a plus.

I've recommend the hotel in the sense that it's safe, clean and you can meet some interesting characters hanging out in the hotel restaurant/bar. Many guests are there for extended periods so many people know each other and are eager to swap stories.

The highlight of the stay had to be the prostitute who hung out by the men's room. She keep winking at me and asking which room I was staying in.

Stay at the Mamba Point. It's anything but boring!

Very unfriendly. I'm not sure if it was african/liberian culture or why the staff are so cold. It's weird.

"I didn't get sick, so that's a plus" Hahahaha you cracked me up with that hahaha yeah, of all the reviews I've read about hotels in Africa, it's always the same... quite unfriendly, unaccommodating, and sometimes even dirty and unsafe. But you are right, if the hotel is just by the embassy, that's definitively the safest area in town! :P
