well what can be said about Malmesbury?..A quiet little Wiltshire village, loads of history (if your interested), crazy people and surprisingly a few classic pubs....

Having grown up in Malmesbury, i can only comment on the pub culture and... the pub culture, although ive come to realise over the recent years it has much more to offer.

Growing up here as a teenager may possibly be seen as the worst thing ever, i know ive done it (although underage drinking when i was young wasnt so regulated).

If your in Wiltshire, Malmesbury is worth a day vist, it has a glorious Abbey, dating back to the 600 AD (approx 20 mins needed unless your an enthusiast) and some interesting graves!. Although i do recal only ever tripping over these in the bid to have a quick route thought the abbey grounds when younger, and if i didnt i have fond memories of those who did!...I do believe the Abbey is closed for night "wanderings now as a result".

These memories aside, if you like quirky country pubs and your in the area then there are a few worth visiting, however bear in mind i have been living in Kassel in Germany for the last 6 years and maybe slightly behind the times!

The whole hog....a lovely pub.....located next to a great curry house (Raja in my experience, but we only have 2 restaurants and one takaway (which i am as yet unable to comment on) ,the other being the spice merchant which is more southern indian cusine, and just as good). A really nice setting, decor at your discresion, its a listed building, and a suerly landlord...i only say this becasue he remembers me falling asleep in his establishment on several occasions and he woke me up! Stone walls mean phone signals hard to pick up on sometimes

The 3 cups, quite a local bar and an age old favourite of mine (this is where we used to partake in underage drinking....a long time ago, should the local police be taking note), apparently now does good food (pizza, burgers etc) quite late at night, almost unheard of in the UK! and has a lounge bar and "regulars bar", as i have said cant comment too much havent been there in a while!

Three crowns, another locals bar, with skittle alley, i think they have darts and live music now and then, well my friends brother plays sometimes!

Guild hall, younger crowd, juke box, pool table, had many a great lock in here (long time ago..., just incase!), nice stone wall interior, use'd to be a cafe....no im not that old, ive got a great memory. Phone signal, not a chance!

Kings Arms.......well too many memories to mention so will stick with the last 5 years worth which is limited, again main bar (mainly younger crowd with pool table and juke box) and lounge bar, mainly residents (also does accomodation) and a local "older crowd".

The smoking dog.....The current flavour of the month (or last few years), old stone wall establishment, small, personal, great selection of ales (if thats your thing), games....jenga (personal fav), local papers, good for an afternoon beer/coffee and usually busy in evenings, infact if im in the UK, can usually be seen here......word of warning, many mobile phone networks cant pick up through the stone walls so if ur arrnging to meet here, arrange to meet outside.

Thats about it for night entertaiment unless your staying at the Old Bell hotel which is a gorgeous place to say (I used to work here..), in which case i cant discriminate but caters much towards tourists (slightly more expensive but nice surroundings) and bar on your doorstep!

Theres a basics on Msalmesbury, ive added this because its a great place to visit, if only for one day, and maybe im slightly bias! Im also looking forward to returning to Malmesbury soon, and may update should i feel it necessary to
