Castle, museum and aquarium May 16, 2009
The Malmö Museer is the largest museum in southern Sweden and set in the oldest renaissance castle in Scandinavia. It was built in 1434 by Eric of Pomerania. The museum is a bit of an odd collection of aquarium, stuffed animals and local history. You can visit the great hall of the castle and the watch tower.
It is, as the signs proudly proclaim, full of "really old stuff". I quite liked the way they exhibited the really old stuff too, with short extracts in Swedish and English, such as the following on a display of old trading coins:
He boasted loudly of all kinds of exploits
Of his good friends anong kings and nobles
What nonsense! The old saying is so true -
Empty barrels ruble the loudest. When it came time to pay
the fellow wriggled like a snake wit one excuse
after the other. The blacksmith had never been able to tolerate
such prattle. The braggart got a real going over
before the smith turned the man's pockets inside out.
The only things of value were a few foreign coins
But they were silver, so they were good enough
Adults SEK 40, children age 7-15 SEK 10, children age 0-6 free. Students with valid student ID SEK 20. Danish and Euro accepted.
