I’ll be going back to Malawi in the end of this year and I’m already really excited about it. My friend who is leading one school, asked me if I could lead a team to Malawi and after few days I said yes. It’s so exciting to take a team with me and show them how life looks in Malawi. It’s li…

We landed early in Nairobi, before sunrise, so it was not much to see. Only two hours to my next flight to Lilongwe, Malawi. As we went through the gate my seat was changed and this time NOT for the better. I was looking forward to my A seat, so I could get a good view of Mt Kilimanjaro. But that w…

Amazing African adventure
By Carol Driver
Admittedly, Malawi is perhaps not the most obviously destination if you are looking for two weeks’ sunbathing by a pool and clubbing the night away.
This former British colony has long been overlooked by holidaymakers, but thank…

In Malawi they call themselves as "the warm heart of Africa". I would say that this feeling is all around the country.
Malawi was the first part of our plan of visiting Africa. Mozambique would be the second one (I´ll create a new blog for it).
Lilongwe -the capital city-, Liwonde National Park, and Cape Maclear were the only three points in Malawi we could spend a few days in. 10 days in total, enough to have a taste of a beautiful country full of beautiful people.

From Nsanje we hiked up the mountain to the area of Chididi. They aren't joking when they call it a mountain, and when it comes to journeying back down the mountain we're amazed at some of the slopes we made it up. About a third of the way up I had a horrible asthma attack - which …

During the summer of 2003 I went to Malawi, Africa for about a month. I spent most of my time working with Save Orphans Ministries (SOM)...tearing down old houses to reuse the bricks, helping out with VBS, and just getting to know the people there. At the end of the trip we had a couple days to relax (we got to go on a safari).

Mvu camp was a wonderful experience. First, the journey there. We were driven in our minibus to the south of the country a few days into our visit and after a two hour drive on bumpy roads were transferred to two motor boats to take us on a 40 minute trip on the ri…

Melbourne, Australia -› Hong Kong -› …
Woke up at the luxurious hour of 8:15am. Flopped around and read my book until 10am when we went on a village walk (K500), led by Robert. First off we saw drying cassava which is a Malawian staple but unfortunately smelt like a combo of strong cheese and off meat. It was pure white and had a chalky…

After a long busjourney from the Vic Falls in 18 hours across Zambia to Lilongwe the capital of Malawi and another transportation day to Mzuzu I finally made it to Nkhata Bay on the shores of Lake Malawi. Its known as a touristy place but in rainy season there are just a few backpackers and volunte…

So we've spent the entire day effectively wasting time in Blantyre. Chris left early this morning, without saying goodbye (!) on his way to Cape Maclear to start his PADI course. Alex and I will follow on tomorrow. We've spent most of today lazing around in Blantyre, actively seek…
