Maki Manama Reviews
Japanese food done right Mar 14, 2016
Located in the World Trade district of Manama, Bahrain. Maki is contemporary Japanese food done right. While there is some foo-foo and overly sweetened entrees that are questionable to Japanese customs. There is an impressive amount of pride in each dish. The tempura dishes are spot on. The main courses have a very wide variety. The beverage selection even more so.
Maki is very high tech with menus being offered from Ipads. Television screens portray behind the scenes of founder Oliver Zeitoun on his gathering of ingredients in Japan and the cradle to grave process of how each entree is developed. The climate of the restuarant felt authentically even though located in the Middle East while some other restaurants aim to be Japanese-themed. I recognized this due to how the chop sticks, plates and utensils were lined out as well as the style of the kitchen.
Overall, Maki is a strong recommendation. While it is a tad expensive with customers guaranteed to spend about $100 for a modest sized meal, great quality comes a higher price with very good customer service. The Bahrain location has an upstairs lounge for those who prefer to drink instead. The furniture is comfortable. Will visit here again. Take note that Maki's hold several locations around the world and not just in Bahrain alone.
