Makena is becoming more and more popular with more resorts and golf courses sprouting up around the area. Makena State Park is the most popular area. There are two beaches, locally known as Big Beach and Little Beach. Big Beach is very popular and is the one mainly visited by tourists. Little Beach is less visited mainly because it is hidden from view. You need to hike over a hill on the right side of Big Beach to reach it. Little Beach is also a nude beach, and although it is not legal, it is accepted.
Makena is the place to go to get away from the crowds and really get into the Hawaiian vibe.
