A Retreat at the Mouth of Zion Oct 18, 2008
Majestic View Lodge is an apropos name for this hotel. The views of the towering sandstone monoliths in shades of red, gold, and green are purely awe-inspiring. Located just 3 miles away from Zion National Park's southern entrance, the lodge location is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who need more comfortable accommodations than just a tent, a sleeping bag, and a pit toilet.
The lodge definitely has that wood cabin feel with visible woodwork through the lodge grounds. Their website mentions that the wood used in the lodge's construction were recycled from a park fire and from beetle infestation. The room itself looked rustic with wood furnishings. The artwork and light fixtures were accented by ornate metalwork, I think bronze, that depicted bears and moose. The beds were comfy with enough firmness to support my back. The room was equipped with a mini refrigerator and coffee maker, even pool towels in the closet. The bathroom and was minimal but clean. The toilet flushed like a jet engine...which is good and bad at the same time. The downsides were the carpeting which was thin and rough, unfortunately, and the air-conditioner which we could not figure out how to turn on until just before checking out! The balcony was furnished with 2 chairs fashioned from wood so that we can soak up the lovely surrounding environment. The jacuzzi was nice but beware it gets super hot. Unfortunately, the pool was not heated as the website says. Despite the carpet, air-conditioner, and pool, I recommend the Majestic View Lodge. The cost for the room is expensive but splitting it amongst 3 other people really made our 1 night stay affordable. Furthermore with an on-site restaurant and bar, gift shop, and museum, the lodge covers most guests' needs. Another plus is the shuttle bus stop that takes lodge guests directly into Zion National Park as well as into Springdale proper. But the main reason I recommend the Majestic View Lodge is its proximity to Zion National Park. I will definitely stay here again the next time I visit Zion! If you are visiting Zion Park this is the hotel you have to stay in. The location and the views from the hotel are just fascinating. Everything made of wood and the atmosphere is just perfect. At night I recommend you to get a couple of beers and go to the swimming pool. They have a nice jacuzzi... just get the picture...in the jacuzzi, having a beer and overlooking the "milky way"... well, it is one of THE best times I had on this trip. All rooms have the same style, everything made of wood, very clean, and they also have a very good restaurant with typical food from the area. I highy recommend this hotel although I believe you have to reserve with time, as it is the preferred hotel to stay while visiting Zion Park. I am enclosing some pictures... about the rates, no idea, as we booked it through an agency.
