The house of a million pieces May 17, 2017
If you thought the cathedral was the highlight of this town, you're wrong! Whilst on paper, it's pushed as the main attraction, the real gem is hidden in a quiet leafy suburb about a km away from the Old Town Centre.

yes indeed....just follow the signage on the road (yes, on the road) - you have fancy tiles that lead you to the Maison. It's in the most unassuming of places but once you reach the Maison, it's gold.

So, what is it? well, it's a house.

Well, it's a house made of millions pieces of crockery, broken glasses, bottle caps and sort of then compiled into mosaics. They've been made into everything from King seats to impressions of the Notre Dame on the fences!

The story goes that the builder, Raymond Isidore was attracted by glass pieces and mosaic he'd find as he'd walk through the fields. This made him start collecting them and building decorative pieces: first on his walls, then the floors, the furniture, eventually into the garden as well (the Eiffel Tower). Today, it's a house of mosaic and glass pieces!

It's a really nice "chillout" spot of Chartres. And in all honesty, was a lot more fun than the "predictable" Cathedral.

My only advice - check the website for the timings. They're closed a couple of hours during lunch. So this could be challenging for day trippers who have to leave Chartres by evening.
