Beachy

Having spent a comfortable night, we wandered down the shore to view the Neddick "Nubble" Lighthouse. After taking several pictures, we made our way to the gift shops and bought a few trinkets to remember our trip. The weather was starting to turn against us so we decided to cut short our Northeast adventure for some warmer climates. We would drive all the way back to Boston and catch a flight to San Jose, California. DeAnne had a few friends out there who'd see that we ha...

Walking the dog
posted by:
Apr 08, 2008
So upon arrival at the State Park I learned the road is closed during the winter.  So I parked at the gates got the dog out of the truck and we began our walk into the park.  The road still covered in quite a bit of snow made the walk slighty difficlut with a dog who loves to be right in front of you.  Once we got to the park though the grounds were virtually snow free and the walking around was much easier.  We made our way to the Bell Tower took some snapshots and then d...

Early starts and moose spotting
posted by:

Myself and Jen, another English girl studying at UMaine were driven by Andy, an American friend of ours to his home on a farm in Vermont. We set off bright and early, a shock to our systems having become accustomed to lazy student days! On the way we drove through Mexico, ME (so I feel I can technically say I have been to Mexico ;-) ) - the camera came out for a photo of that! We also spent the whole time with our eyes peeled for moose - determined to see one in Maine, possibly the moos...

Heading North
posted by:
Sep 04, 2008 - Sep 07, 2008
Acadia National Park is on the most-eastern edge of North America, which means the sun hits it before any other part of the continent each day.  Pretty cool.  In fact, except for some eastern reaches of Brazil, the sun arrives here before anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere each day.  Pretty cool indeed.  Brian and I agree that seeing the sunrise before anyone else on the continent is worth waking up early for.  So at 5:15am, the alarm sounds and we...

Portland Maine
posted by:

The sun was out early in Portland, but we got up around 9am and had some breakfast before we went out exploring.  The ship docked next to the old port area. We took a city bus that did a loop around the town, and then let us off at a 1860s victorian mansion.  The mansion was in fantastic shape, as it had been maintained by the family that lived there since taking over from the original owners in 1928.We walked back thru town and took in the ambience of Portland.  Lin tried to f...

No Pain in Maine

After the stuffed shirts and the society dames in Boston, and the primped up beaches at Cape Cod, it was a relief to be in Maine. Not that the MA beaches weren't exquisite, they were. But there's just no heart in Nantucket. It looks like somewhat like a beautiful porcelain toy. Too delicate and cutesy for my taste. Anyway, it was a big relief to be in a place as laidback and easygoing as Maine. Specially enjoyed the timeout at Old Orchard Beach. Classic good old American family beach d...

THANK YOU to everyone who sends me postcards and help make my collection grow! I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH! If you sent me a postcard and you don't see it in this blog, it means it's still on its way or I never received it because it got lost or someone stole it. Yeah, it happens.

So here I am in Bar Harbor, Maine. Have made it to my final East Coast destination before I start heading back West to california. Now about that. Now that I am here I have absolutely fell in love with the area here, and don't really want to drive back across the U.S. to california. I have no job there, I'd most likely just end up having to crash at a friends house or one of my parents house anyway. I have absolutely nothing to really go back for, nothing waiting for me to come back. Not even...
