Acadia National Park

Despite the brisk competition from other wonderlands in Maine, Acadia wins the top spot for natural beauty in my heart.  There is something special about mountains on the ocean.  Even if the mountains are relative midgets (Cadillac Mountain is the highest point here at 1,530 feet - still the highest on the East Coast of the US).   Cadillac Mountain is a good place to begin out tour of Acadia National Park as there is a road to the summit and most visitors drive up ...

What a Great experience! I guess what I want to say most of all is thank you to Phish and Co., the state of Maine and all the wonderful folks between our I95 exit and the entrance to paradise. I could have never imagined such a fine welcome. I rolled through the towns around 8:00pm Friday and all along the way were locals out on the streets waving and honking. It was quite a special feeling. For me, it set the tone for the whole weekend. It turned out to be the one of the best weekends of my ...

Falling From 14,000 Feet
posted by:
Jul 23, 2006 - Sep 04, 2007
July 8th, 2007: I finally did it.  I jumped from a moving airplane at 14,000 feet.  Yes, I skydived!  On June 26th, my friend, Shannon, bartered for free gift certificates for two people at Skydive New England.  She chose me to go with her, and I couldn't refuse (even though I was a little hesitant to do it).  Normally it would cost about $190 to jump, plus $125 for the video and roll of film.  So we were each saving $190.  Great deal! We had been planni...

The Madness of Portland, Maine - And More!
posted by:
Oct 13, 2007
Nothing like New England in the autumn!  Hailing from the West Coast, I decided that fall was the best time to go because on the West Coast there are two seasons;  warm and  chilly.  So I was excited to see a real fall, who wouldn’t be?   Chip has been really great at helping me see the states within the East Coast region as he is from New York City, born and bred, so he is very familiar with the New England Area.  Sometimes more than he would like to admit.&...

IT Limestone, ME - Aug. 2nd, 2003

I always love the unique creations built by the various artists at these festivals, and this year's "Sunk City" was the coolest of the bunch, imo. The half-sunk Bob's Big Boy was priceless.  IT was a collection of artworks and other fun and very creative stuff. IT was really cool. I saw some people getting married there. IT was a city they built in the woods that had an area for kids to put tape everywhere from tree to tree wich ended up looking like one huge trippy web. ...

Just a short drive down the road and we were at the Owls Heads Lighthouse.  A nice little park setting and not as long as a walk from parking area to lighthouse.  We parked my truck and set out up the path to the lighthouse.  This lighthouse unlike the Breakwater is an actuall Coast Guard maintained lighthouse the keeper and his family have living quaters on premisis and judging by the purple power wheels Id say he has a little girl lol.  Thier is alot of nesting area in t...

How I got there

I think the list of the most favorite things to eat should be headed by Boneless Buffalo Style Chicken. The funny thing about it is that at first i hated it, then i could eat it, next stage was - stealing it from my husband's plate. I would give the second place to Salt&Pepper Chicken from chinese restaurant Panda and Sakura in York Beach. Then I guess cheeseburgers from Wendy's (im not a healthy food person) Too bad i hate seafood. A lot of people consider it's a shame that I l...

Day 67
posted by:
Feb 28, 2006 - Jul 21, 2006
Talk about good timing. Wane No and I got into town just before the thunderstorm hit. I have been very fortunate weatherwise and have only had to use my rain gear a handful of times. We got into town around noon and just spent the day relaxing on the porch and walking back and forth to the general store / diner / gas station. We ate twice, including two ice creams, had some beer and just hung out, talking to Poncho and Tataruga - two girls from Boston, one finishing her last section of...

Portland, Maine - Mission Accomplished!
posted by:

Ah, Fall in Maine!  I was representing Portland, Oregon when I went to visit Portland, Maine.  It wasn't quite what I had expected.  I thought that it would be some amazing metropolis, but you know what they say about people who assume.  Well, it is true!  Because I had built it up so much in my head I was shocked when the reality was not anywhere near the dream!     Still it was beautiful at many of the places we stopped and the people we...

Kennebunk Beach
posted by:
May 24, 2008 - May 25, 2008
Kennebunk Beach, upon arrival, was instantly and obviously one of the cleanest beaches I've seen, at least in New England. I'm fairly certain that the sand was whiter and the water was bluer than at most beaches around here. We walked around for a bit, enjoying the tranquil day, replete with large billowy clouds, but it began to rain after a while... evidenced by the threatening looking storm clouds rolling in (despite this, it never actually rained for more than 15 minutes at a time the whol...

Touchdown... Buckeyes!?!

SEPT 3 Pretty much a complete washout today.  I drove down south of Portland in the Cape Elizabeth area and stopped out at a few lighthouses along the coast.  But it was cool, windy, and raining, to such an extent that I wasn't in the mood to do much hiking or the like.  Finally got back to Portland to get my run in which was also pretty miserable time in the rain for over an hour. SEPT 4 Well the day was much better, than yesterday, although there was still some drizzl...

A Maine Love Affair

The Friendliest Place on Earth. No, that would not be Tennessee, South Carolina or any of those other states below the Mason Dixon line. Prior to this weekend, I would have never thought people from any New England state could rival the friendliness and hospitality of Southerners. Then I went to Maine.EVERYONE wanted to talk to us, tell us their life stories or simply or relay a recent incident that had happened to them. First there was the chick at Banana Republic who took notice of Liz's D.C...
