Owls Head Lighthouse Apr 16, 2008
Owls Head State Park and Owls Head Lighthouse are nice places to walk around and explore. The park has a large parking area and a shady picnic area to stop and eat which is overlooking Penobscot Bay. Walking up to the light house you’ll get a beautiful view of the bay, some small surrounding islands and Rockland Harbor. The lighthouse is off limits, you have to schedule an appointment to gain accesses as is the keeper’s house but you can still walk around just stay on the trail there are nesting areas in the surrounding grass. In the parking area they are paths that lead down to the shoreline. If it is low tide I recommend going down there and checking out the rocks they have some you can crawl around inside and go through I call them the "Bat Caves" cause I am a huge batman fan lol! Some of the area’s leading down to the beach can be pretty steep so watch out. I don’t recommend wearing flip flops the rocks can get slippery and it is not a sandy beach. It is nice place to go and spend an afternoon and have a picnic and just walk around if you have the time. There are some beautiful homes down there and a bolstering wharf. If your into photography make sure you bring your camera it’s worth the trip out there!
