Get your rain gear on and board the MAID OF THE MIST. Feel the mist of the Falls spray your face - hear the rumble of the water and sense the vast power as the boat makes its way to the base of the American Falls. The boat then heads to the basin of the Horsehoe Falls.

We have been on the Maid of the Mist so many times. Everyone who comes to visit us has to see the Falls/ It's an awesome boat trip - one that I never tire of.

From the boat is the only way to know the true beauty of one of the world's natural wonders.

In operation since 1846, Maid of the Mist has both Canadian and American boarding points.

Address: 5920 Niagara Parkway

Niagara Falls is an ideal vacation area and with some basic information, you can make your visit even more enjoyable. Since the Niagara Falls experience is a blend of the distinct flavours of both Canada and the USA. I will provide some information here for you.

Travel between Canada and the USA is quick and convenient by way of the Rainbow Bridge, central to Niagara Falls, along with Peace Bridge (Fort Erie) , the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge and the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge.

You can also walk across the bridge and enjoy spectacular views of the Falls and Niagara River.

When entering either country, the border crossing process is simple and friendly. Customs agents will request your place of birth, your destination and the expected length of your visit. Have your identification ready as the agents may ask you for certification of residency. It is wise to have a driver's licence , proof of citizenship such as birth certificate or passport readily available.

For more information:

Update: A passport is needed to travel between Canada and the U.S.

A Thrilling Adventure Jul 31, 2012
One of the things I wanted to do going to Niagara Falls was to go close to the falls at the bottom. The thrilling and adventurous boat ride famously known as ‘Maid of the Mist’ provided a great opportunity for me and my little ones to have an adventure. My 12 year old and 5 month old came along and had an incredible time. We left Kitchener for Niagara Falls Park at about 9:30 am, arriving at approximately 11:00 am. It was pretty hot and humid, but that did not stop us from going right to the tours and ticket counter. My sister did not come with because she has a phobia for water.

Our tickets cost US or CAN 15, the baby was free. We got in line (yes it was incredibly crowded), for the descent down to the dock. An elevator took us down to the bottom from where we were given blue ponchos to keep us dry from the water spray from the falls. We missed the first boat because it filled up quick, we took the second one. We went up for a better view; the tour was 15 minutes in total excluding the walk from the top to the bottom where the tour begins.

I must say, I have not had as much fun in the last 2 years as I had taking this tour. The falls is massive, words do it no justice. The force with which it falls, the spray and white looks like you walked right into a blizzard. The giant wall that appears as you get really close and turn is almost frightening; but it is mostly awe inspiring, leaving many gapping. The thunder of the falls as it drops many feet down is deafening, at one point I could not hear anyone speaking, even the closest person to me, who was my daughter. t was important for me not to keep my camera out all the time seeing as it is not water proof, but if you have a waterproof or underwater camera, you will want to carry that with you when you go to the falls. You will definitely get wet whether you go to the top of the boat or stay at the lower level. Be sure to tie the top part of the poncho under your chin otherwise the wind will blow it right off your head.

The boat has a guide who spoke to us over the PA at the beginning and at the end of the tour. This tour is available from both the Canadian and American sides. Many come to the Canadian side because it has the bigger part of the falls. This is a must see attraction if you find yourself in Canada, or plan to visit Canada. The falls is one of the world’s natural wonders, and you can take that off your list. This was $15 well spent and I would do it again.

The Maid of the Mist is a must do tour! Aug 12, 2011
The Maid of the Mist is a boat tour in Niagara Falls that first became a tourist attraction in 1854. The tours are available from either the American or Canadian side of the river, with a return trip to your original starting point.

Since we were with a tour group I am not sure what the price for admission was. The line was a little long but the people kept flowing. They hand you a blue rain coat, that is yours to keep if you so desire. Most people will stop and put them on right away but it’s best if you wait until after you arrive on the boat, so that you don’t bake in the sun if it’s a hot day. Make sure you tie it at the bottom so the mist will run down the rain coat. The boat will take you past the American and Bridal Veil Falls and then into the dense mist of spray inside the curve of the horseshoe falls.

Depending on how wet you want to get is the location of the boat you should stand. We stayed on the lower section on the boat and still got wet. I could only imagine how soaked the people on the top part of the boat got. Make sure you cover your camera when you are in the dense mist section or your pictures might not come out afterwards.

You do get a little wet on this tour but it is something that you can’t leave tower without doing. The maid of the mist tour is completely awesome and totally worth doing.

Very touristy, but worth it! Mar 25, 2011
When they say "mist", they actually mean "a proper soaking"!

Me and my sister went straight form the falls back to NYC on a coach and then onto Seattle-it took 2 days to get there and we were covered in Niagra water...nice!lol!

Maid of the mist is well recommended-more so with a waterproof camera though, abd i wouldnt rate the imax movie much-i hate re-enactments!

The falls are spectacular and when the light is right, you'll see rainbows!

Must do when in Niagara Falls Sep 30, 2011
A boat will take you from the Canadian docks past the base of the American Falls, then into the basin of the magnificent Canadian Horseshoe Falls. The Maid departs every 15 minutes. This was a fun thing to do, I really liked it. In the price it`s included a poncho(you will get wet!). Well worth the money :)

Maid of the mist Jul 13, 2011
Maid of the mist was a truly amazing experience, well worth the money and time, However as a whole Niagara Falls as a place was incredibly tacky and Americanized. Although at first walking down the main street i found it all very impressive, i soon became tired of the over I would definitely recommend a day trip here but no longer than that.

My most favorite Niagara falls...It's soooo beautiful...It's on New York Side... I went to both side of the falls (New York side and Toronto side) and this is the most beautiful for me. I took plenty of pictures with the same falls.

amazing cure for a hangover!! Aug 20, 2010
The maid of the mist is brilliant.

hold tight to your camcorder's or iphone's.....believe me it get's very windy and wet in the mist,it's very much like being in the middle of a bad blizzard!!

I went on the boat ride every day for 2weeks it was that good and so cheap too.

The boat trip lasts around 13min's,you start of travelling past the American fall's and along the river into the horseshoe where you watch a fellow maid of the mist boat go through the mist before returning and then you enter and return back to the port, it keeps rotating like that all day
ship ohoy!

Thrilling Experience Apr 26, 2010
The Maid of the Mist is a boat ride in Niagara Falls. Costs around USD 15. This boat ride is one of its kind in the travel world and a must visit attraction on falls.

Going close to the falls and getting wet though covered by blue plastic poncho in the Maid of the Mist boat ride at Niagara Falls is fun and thrilling. Personal and close view of all 3 Niagara Falls (American, Bridal and Horse shoe falls) from the boat is great experience. Seeing the mist by getting west while close to Horse shoe falls is an amazing and lively experience too.

THe boats can be boarded on boath Canadian and American sides of Niagra Falls. Rainbow Bridge view is also good while returning to base.

how to become wet and deaf! May 02, 2009
A lot of people have been writing about the Maid of the Mist. You can choose to take the american side or the canedian side. For the boat trip is does not matter which one you take. The price in 2009 may was 14$. So not very expensive. In our case we visited the falls on the Canedian side. After you buy your tickets you have to walk down in a few rounds. If it is crowded, there are tv's hanging over your head to keep you busy. After this walk they will lead you to a big elevator which will bring you down to the Falls. Before that they offer you to take a picture. You have to walk beside that. Than they hand out the plastic Blue raincoat. And you will need it. Also make sure you cover your camera, because it will get wet. Than you can walk to the boat. The trip does not take very long, but long enough to see and hear nothing! But it is impressive, the sound of the water comming down. The moist of the fall upon your face. It is a very special experience. The closer you will get to the horseshoe fall the louder the noise, and more difficult to take your pictures. But enjoy it. We did! After the tour they will bring you back with the elevator, and guess where they stop? In the huge souvenir shop!

Get Wet! Nov 03, 2009
If you're going to Niagara Falls Canada, the Maid of the Mist is a must. Get up and personal with one of the earth’s natural wonders. Time your visit so you're first on the boat. Head immediately to the bow and enjoy the ride.

Important: The comments express are mine and in no way intended to promote any product, service or tour. Also, I’m not here to write full ‘play by play’ reports on my experience simply to provide short first hand personal impression. As with all comments, reviews, recommendations on the internet, in books or magazines, they are SUBJECTIVE! We all have individual likes and dislikes and it is your responsibility to perform your own ‘due diligence’ and make educated choices. The bottom line… we live on an amazing planet and I’ve been fortunate enough to have explored a large piece of it. My only suggestion would be to get out there and enjoy every bit of it whenever you’re able.

You have to do this when you are with the Falls Aug 05, 2009
When you are with the Niagara Falls you need to take the boattrip on the Maid of the Mist.

It is beautifull en the boat sailes very near to the Falls. The sound of the water falling is incredible and very loud. You get a free plastic bleu coat at the entrance. The entrance fee is not much, only $ 14 for adults, we thought it would be much more expensive.

Photos will be placed later.

Must-do when you are in Falls.. Jun 16, 2008
Like the brochure says "It´s not just a boat ride, it´s an adventure"! When I did this in Canadian side Falls it was raining and other stuff like wet snow was coming from the sky. But it was good, because it wasn´t so crowded that it usually is. It was really cool, and I would recommend it to anyone. But you will get wet in this for 100% sure.. But who cares? It´s THE Falls, you are suppose to get wet around there!:D

It costed $14,50 for adult, $8,90 for children (6-12 years) and children under 5 its FREE, so not that bad after all. And this is of course Canadian dollars.

It is also accessible to the physically challenged.

It´s open from May to October.

There is the basic info and more you can find from their website
Near the HorseShoe Falls.
Waiting to get in a boat.

The weather in October was perfect to go onto the boat! It wasn't cold nor warm. Luckily they gave us a poncho to wear because you will get wet on this boat ride. The ticket booth is near the tourist strip on the Canadian side (and I think there is a boat leaving from the American side as well). Once everyone is on the boat, it brings you pretty close to the American Falls to get great pictures! You will see many rainbows during the ride. Part of the boat ride is to talk to the other tourists on the boat! Also, during the ride the captain is giving some history of the falls. Once most of the boat has pictures of the American Falls, they take you to the center of the horseshoe falls. It is very difficult to take many pictures from this point because of all of the mist. At this point you do get wet!

The Maid of the Mist boat ride at Niagara Falls has to be one of the world's most famous (and fun!) sightseeing attractions. The attraction has been in operation since 1848 carrying vistors and thrill seekers for an up close and personal view of Niagara Falls. It is defintely something thet you "have" to do when visiting Niagara Falls.

THe boats can be boarded on either the Canadian side at River Road in Niagra Falls, Ontario, or on the American side in Niagra Falls, NY. In either location, an elevator takes you down to the river level. As you board, you've given a blue plastic poncho to wear. But, you'll get wet anyway, it's part of the attraction! (Mind your camera.)

The boat will take you right up to the base of the Canadian Falls. You'll feel the mist, hear the roar of the falls, and sense the boat fighting the strong current of the Niagara River. There are also great views of the American Falls and Rainbow Bridge.

The Maid of the Mist operates April to October.
