Maguga Lodge Reviews
Little luxury, but great staff Dec 20, 2014
Our overnight stay in the kingdom of Swaziland was in this lodge right on the side of the Maguga Dam. The rooms (rondavels) look nice but are a bit old and tatty. In ours the toilet seat was broken and staff couldn't help us with that at that time, they felt terrible about it but we could manage without the seat. Another couple in our group had a bigger problem, a hole in the roof with a birds nest in it, the baby birds pooped all over the bed. They were given another room, problem solved!
As we were having a drink before dinner at the Porch (veranda), the weather changed from a bit grey to thunder and lightning and heavy rain. The electricity went off, on again, off again and this time it stayed off. The restaurant kitchen has an aggregaat but the rest of the lodge stayed dark. The staff came with candles and oil lamps and kept apologising to us, we all thought it was kinda romantic. Dinner took a while but the food was great!
At the rondavels the staff lit the oil lamps in the room so we didn't have to grope in the dark and they left some cookies on the bed.
Next morning the electricity was back on and the staff again apologized for last night.
Breakfast was nice
We didn't have the chance to try the pool, it looks great though with its view on the Dam.
Nice place for an overnight stay, don't know if I could spend a whole week there though
