Innovative menu with a southern flair Apr 01, 2011
Traveling to the near by town of Raleigh frequently for work, I visit the Magnolia Grill several times a year. What's great about this quant bistro is it's as easy to grab southern dishes like as catfish, fried green tomatoes, grits, collard greens, fried chicken, sweet potatoes, and pecan pie, but all with an innovative twist. The art work at the place is very eye-catching and worth a visit in itself. I particularly enjoy the grits-cheese- mushroom side dish that is the restaurant's signature dish. The desserts are pretty good, but I have to say the strawberry rhubarb sorbet is the best. Keep in mind when dining here, you are in a rather small southern town - you'll label yourself a tourist if you pick at your grits, fail to order sweet tea or ask for the gravy on the side. Prime dinner time is 7pm as well. . . if you show up at 9, that will be the other dead give away you aren't a local.
