Magnolia Bakery Travel Reviews

to cupcakes, what Lafitte is to wine! Mar 10, 2008
The Magnolia Bakery is an institution. You MUST go there on a walk about the West Village if only to see the action and have one cupcake. Be warned; there is always a line around the corner - for cupcakes!!! While waiting you can see the staff baking and icing the always freshly new cupcakes. Sure, they sell cakes and other things (I think), but Magnolia is all about the cupcakes. Located on one of the best blocks in the West Village for shopping, walking, and watching, the area is a great place to see an authentic (albeit it high end expensive) New York City neighborhood. Most people on the at least 15 minute line seem to be suburbanites making the trek to cupcake Mecca. You've seen these on Sex in the City - Magnolia is another must do for an NYC visit.

Some people think Magnolia cupcakes are the best the city has to offer. Sarah Jessica Parker is just one of the celebrity regulars, who can't seem to resist. The bakery is located in a cute neighborhood hosting cafes with outdoor seating, and one of kind boutiques.

The bakery is a huge tourist attraction, but NYC native (like myself) can be spotted stading in line for cupcakes. You can see the decorated cupcakes from the window. The cast of Sex and the City made the place into a landmark, but recently Allysa Torey sold Magnolia to a well-known restaurateur, so I don't know what has become of the quality.

We turned the corner and saw the fancy fine dining establishment,Osteria al Doge. Inside we found elegant settings and au...
