The Magic Garden is the work of Isaiah Zagar. All over South Street murals can be found decorating the streets and celebrating the city. The Magic Garden is a lot made of tiles, bottles, tires, and reused materials.

Similar to the folk tradition of the Black South of decorating a garden with found items, it reminds the visitor that art can be found anywhere.

Not only is the garden amazing to see in its complete form, but each individual sculpture and tile that makes up the building is interesting as well. Tiles are used to spell out sentences on the walls and floors, the bicycle tires create "windows" through the walls.

There is a portion outdoors as well as indoors. The contrast between the sparsely lit basement and the outdoor garden makes it eerie or charming.

I would recommend to bring a warm or cold drink from any of the plentiful shops around the garden to enjoy the space in tranquility. Its maze-like hallways and the continuing work of Zagar make it impossible to have seen everything.

Hehe thanks.
Oddly, I don't think this is very well known, even within Philly. So I'm glad to share it :)
