Madurai, also known as the 'Temple Town' is the third largest city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is perhaps one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Hence, one of the major Hindu pilgrimage centers in the country.
It is marked by the Dravidian temple architecture style and was also referred to as 'Athens of the East' by Megasthenes, Greek ambassador to India.
The entire city is built around the Meenakshi temple as a focus, depicting the structure of the cosmos.
