Right as we arrived in Spain I noticed lots of differences. All of the cars were tiny and people drove like maniacs. The European guys looked different in a very good way. We took a taxi-van to our hotel "Hostel Macarena" near the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Except our taxi driver smelled like alcohol and parked on the sidewalk to ask someone for directions to our hotel. AWESOME. We actually arrived 8 am Spain time....meaning I had been up sin...

Four fantastic days in Madrid with my eldest sister savouring the sights, sampling the delicious food and indulging a little too much on the rioja on regular intervals.
The city and the nightlife seems to cater for everyones tastes and the people are open and friendly to tourists.
The Spanish definitely know how to party!
A final note, the ladies who have a shoe fetish, you would have thought you are in shoe heaven when visiting Madrid.
Ive never seen so many shoe shops in my life.

I studied Spanish in Salamanca, Spain while going on a few weekend trips on the Iberian Peninsula (including Lisbon, Portugal). However, halfway through my trip, someone accidentally dropped my camera when taking a pic for me (T_T) so there aren't much pics for some places I went to. That's ok. Memories count the most. =) Journal entries are from my travel diary I brought with me during my trip. =D

This was my last day/night in Madrid. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty bad all day, it just didnt stop raining. So, I didnt particularly do much, except sit in cafes! Had a walk up to the Plaza Mayor, but that was about it. I was pretty tired from all the partying I had been up to anyway, so thought I'd have a quiet day, as I needed to be prepared for later that night when I went back to Arguelles. When I did get there, I thought I'd pop into Lemmy, as, well, I had to really. The music i...

Since he had off of work, we thought we should go some where new for New Years 2007. We stayed in Madrid for a week. We spent the New Years minutes in a great restaurant and I tried my hardest to eat all the grapes but failed. Gil has a bigger mouth so he was able to do it. After dinner we headed over to Plaza Del Sol to see the craziness. We had a blast!
The rest of the trip we spend visiting the Prado and strolling though the Park. A piece of advice: if going to Spain during a h...

The water in Madrid is very very good. I hate having a hangover and sometimes I can beat it by drinking the equivalent of a swimming pool. So that's what I did. And I didn't feel too badly. I was tired, though because the Turkish girls decided to wake up really early and make a ton of noise. Why did we stay in a hostel?? At 27 (which I was then), I should not we staying in a hostel. But they were really the only bad part about it.
Anyway, we decided ...
