This city Rocks!... With capital ROCKS!....The best way (in my humble opinion) is to ignore all the tourist sights, and just soak in the local culture. Ignore the Underground (far too small, and fidegity), and walk everywhere.Start early in the Puerta del Sol, and walk Anti-ClockWise around the city.Stop every now an again in a Museo del Jamon (Museum of Ham) although not what the name suggests, you can get really cheap beer (AKA CaƱas), for around 0.60 EUR. Try the Gambas (Prawns), and of course the Spanish Serrano Ham.Once you've had your fill, move on to the next place. In many places you will discover that with a beer you will get a small selection (usually free) of tapas. Nice touch. Beats Crisps, Chips, and peanuts. If you're on a budget, and want to eat and drink, you can probably fill up on Beer and free tapas for around 5 EUR.Take a few hours to sit at the main square, and enjoy the sights....ohh... and don't forget the comment on the said sights, in a loud voice. Most of all enjoy the food, drink, and lazy way of life.P.S Bars and Restaurants are packed at 2:00pm-4:00pm, as this is lunch time.

Surely walking is the best way to get to know Madrid. There are some great museums in Madrid, but it is not known for it's architecture. If you want to experience Madrid, you need to have some Tapas, and if your up to it, party our ass off. That is what there is to do in Madrid. More specifically, check out the barrios Chueca and Malasana, for some cool alternative stuff. ALso check out the street Huertas. There are lots of toursits but it's the only place I've ever been where they try and get you into the bars, to give you a free shot. Mind you it's something kinda sweet and not very strong, but it's totally free NO STRINGS ATTACHED.
