Affordable accomodation and not too bad Sep 10, 2009
If you arrive by train to Düsseldorf then this hotel is great, maybe 5min. walk from the central station. From the hotel to the Altstadt (city centre) is within walking distance also, about 1km or so. There are several places to eat within a 2 minute walk of the hotel (Chinese, Italian, Thai) and lots of snack bars and a couple of 24hr supermarkets. There's also a McDonalds nearby.
Hotel itself is clean, a little out dated but still a fine place to stay. Just don't go expecting a 4 star as it is more like 3 in my opinion. The (small) pool is nice and clean but not heated, the whirlpool is of a good size and nice to relax in after a day on the town. The room we booked was quite spacious and was facing the inner courtyard therefore also no street noise. Again the furniture looks a bit dated. The rooms don't have air-conditioner. Our booking didn't include breakfast so can't comment on that. Overall, Madison Hotel is quite okay in my opinion for a short stay.
