Worth a visit! May 06, 2011
Madame Walker was born Sarah Breedlove, in Louisiana in 1867.

She was the daughter of freed slaves.

She had problems with her hair being diseased and falling out but nothing she used would cure it. While working as a sales agent for a hair product company, she came up with her own solution that worked on her hair. She began to sell her own product and the rest is history. She started out with capital of $1.25 and eventually became America's first female self made millionaire.

She was very much into the performing arts and dreamed of a place in which she could give back. She passed away before her dream was reality but her daughter A'lelia opened the theater in 1927.

It is a gorgeous theater inside and there are many events that take place there, including weddings and jazz concerts.

I recommend a visit to this historic building.
