Mad Greek Reviews
Greece in the Middle of the Desert?!?! Sep 17, 2008
This has been one of my favorite stops when traveling between Vegas and Los Angeles. It is located in Baker, CA, about 80 miles outside of Las Vegas. I've always loved Gyros and finding decent ones outside of Greece has proved to be a challenge the last year! They've always been pretty crowded but now, a feature on Food Network and Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive In's and Dives, has created a pretty constant crowd these days!
I don't often drive between LA and Vegas now that I live in Sacramento so I try to take advantage of the few times I do. My friend Michelle had never been so we decided to stop on our way back to Sacramento on our first road trip together! The Mad Greek has a full menu of both Greek specialities and American/Mexican offerings as well! The counter where you order is evil since it showcases many Greek desserts which are incredibly yummy!!! The baklava always calls to me and I am powerless against its charms!!! If you make that commute between LA and Vegas, make sure to stop by the Mad Greek. There are amazing large photos inside that transported me back to Santorini and Mykonos for the hour we were there. Lots of celebrity pics and history adorn the walls, including a letter from Shirley Temple to the owners about her decision to divorce her husband. Besides incredible Gyros and Baklava, they are known for their strawberry milkshakes which I have yet to try. And if you are in a hurry, they even have a drive thru but I recommend at least walking in to check out the interior! Part of the Vegas Girls Gone Wild...in Wine Country! travel blog |
