The store takes up an ENTIRE city block! Oct 30, 2011
For the visiting shopper to New York, your trip would be incomplete without a visit to the Macy's store in Herald Square at 34th street near Madison Square Garden!

This will be the largest Macy's you have ever been to. It is the same Macy's from the timeless classic "Miracle on 34th street" with Natalie Wood (I love "West Side Story"!!!). OK, back to Macy's: it has several floors including the Cellar and they still have the original wooden escalators!

Go to customer service. If you have a passport from another country, you can bring it to the desk and get about a 10% discount. If you have an non-New York state driver's license, you may also be able to get the discount so be sure to go and find out.

This store is infamous for Black Friday shopping and additional discounts on the day after Christmas. People I know have bought their entire tree decorations for the following year at discounted prices. Macy's sells clothing, make-up, perfume, and bags, and because this one is so big, there are more options and lots of walking to do. And because it's so large, my suggestions would be to note which entrance you came in so that when it's time to leave, you can back track. Otherwise, it might seem overwhelming to exit a door you didn't enter and then figure out where in the city you are, on which street you ended up on, and which direction the closest train station is.

Even though it's a big store, it's quite busy and it might seem overwhelming, so just be sure to be prepared.
Wow-a wooden escalator! Cool!
