Mactan Vacation Guide
Mactan is an island to the southeast of Cebu island and is linked to Mandaue City across the Mactan Channel by the “old bridge” (Mactan-Mandaue Bridge) and the “new bridge” (Marcelo Fernan Bridge). Mactan is the largest of several islands that comprise the city of Lapu-Lapu. It is also the location of Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the second major airport in the Philippines after Manila.
Although an island itself, the municipality of Cordova in the southern corner is also considered part of Mactan island. The two islands are connected across the narrow waterways dividing them by small bridges (one is Pilipog bridge and the other is ?).
Mactan is the home to several historical icons and landmarks, including Mactan Shrine (memorializing spot where local chieftain Lapu-Lapu defeated Magellan), Magellan’s Cross (purportedly, the actual cross planted by Magellan in 1521), Basilica Minore del Santo Niño (the oldest Catholic Church in Asia), as well as several resorts. There are also beaches along Cebu Strait on the eastern coastline of Mactan.

Maribago Bluewater Resort is one of my favorite hang out places when I was living in Cebu City. It is very accessible from the city and wouldn't require long driving. There are lots of seaside resorts in Cebu but Bluewater has very good, clean, and almost complete facilities, well-trained…

On the way to Mactan Airport, I had early dinner at Sutukil near Mactan Shrine. Seafood can be done either in three ways-- grilled, soup, or vinegar salad. While waiting for the food, I went to the Mactan Shrine. After a hearty dinner, I proceeded to the airport which paid a good price. I was able to take a picture with WBA super flyweight Rafael Concepcion who was just in front of me in the waiting line.
