Mac's Sports Clearwater Reviews
For an introduction to diving in Florida Jun 17, 2012
MAC Sports advertises itself as the oldest dive shop in the city of Clearwater. The owner is an avid diver and their staff comprises of several divers that were trained and certified at the same store.
The store is fully equipped with everything you would need for a dive experience – whether you are a first timer or an experienced diver.
The prices were comparable to the competition and they even matched the price if you found a better price elsewhere.
Although they did not overly upsell more expensive items, it pays to know exactly what you are looking for. They will try and convince you to get the best quality of equipment that they have. But are respectful if you are only looking for something on the lower end of the spectrum to start off your dive experience.
My only gripe with them was that when they advertised the open water diver certification course, they didn’t specify that the students would have to buy all of the equipment short of the tanks and the computers. Including things like de-fogs and weights!
They do not rent out masks, fins and snorkels.
Suits are rented out at $12 a day.
Also, they picked remote dive locations and did not provide any transportation to the sites.
The points in their favor were the extremely helpful dive staff, the pool that was made available for students to practice in at any time, and the trips they conduct for certified divers.
And the fact that they put out a Groupon for the course, thereby reducing the total cost by about 40%! (Which I am sure they made up for with all the stuff they made us buy)
