South America was the first leg of my 5 month trek around the world in 2007. I travelled to Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia during May-June 2007, followed by Central America, Egypt, Morocco and Asia.
South American Highlights included:
* Tubing down the Amazon River
* Horseriding in the mountains surrounding Banos, Ecuador
* Taking a light-plane ride to see the Nazca lines
* Going sand-boarding in Peru
* Hiking the Inca Trail and watching the sunrise over Macchu Pichu ... truly spectacular!

Left the U.S. on September 20, and arrived in Cusco, Peru the next morning. I then spent the day acclimating in Cusco, drinking plenty of coco leave tea and eating very good food, not to mention the pisco sours. Took the train to Machu Picchu the morning of Sept. 22 and arrived early in the afternoon.
