Machine Shed Restaurant Reviews
Machine Shed Restaurant May 19, 2011
The Machine Shed restaurant is south of Des Moines, Iowa and just off of I-35. The one restaurant chain that this place would most closely resemble might be the Cracker Barrel. There's no secret when you pull into the Machine Shed that this is farming community; with an uppercase "F"!!! The grounds around the restaurant give rest to a modest collection of antique tractors and wagons.
On one of these such wagons is a Machine Shed welcome sign. Right above the entrance is a sign that says "Farming is Everyone's Bread & Butter".
Inside there is a souvenir and gift shop with everything from toy tractors and chore gloves to sausage and scented candles. We didn't take much time to look through the shop, except to walk through on our way to the restaurant.
The decor of the restaurant has that distinct flavor to it just as the outside does. The walls are embellished with metal feed signs, horse yokes, pitch forks, old pictures of stuff...like a farmer plowing with a team of mules, and just about anything and everything you might relate to farming. The waiters/waitresses all wear overalls, which seemed to me a little over the top, but everyone who worked there were courteous and friendly.
I had a burger with fries and the food was decent enough, although maybe a bit overpriced (which didn't matter too much since travelman727 was buying! lol).
If you're traveling down the interstate, it's not a bad place to stop and shop and get a bite to eat.
