MacMillan Provincial Park (Cathedral Grove) Reviews

Dec 24, 2007
MacMillan Provincial park (Cathedral Grove) is one of BC's many wonders. Located just before Port Alberni, MacMillan park has trees that are over 800 years old and really really big!!! The biggest tree is over 9m in circumfrence! Most trees are douglas furs but there is hemlocks and red cedars as well. There is many trails you can walk through and it's free! I definatley recommend this place if you are heading over to Vancouver island as it's soo pretty and a really nice walk. Recently there has been protests by the locals against knocking dowm some of the trees and putting in more parking. Quite a few people set up tents and lived in the park for over a year! There is quite a bit of trees on the ground as there was a big storm in 1997 that destroyed alot of the park. Although its very sad it's all part of the cycle of life and the fallen trees provide space for sunlight to get in to help grown new stuff. Good place for the nature buffs!
look how big that tree is in com...
