MacDill Inn DV Suites Tampa Reviews
Sweet DV Suites Mar 17, 2011
MacDill Inn DV Suites are a good military lodging facility and very convenient to most places on MacDill AFB. They just got new computers at the front desk on 17 March 2011—which caused significant delays to check out. It took over 30 minutes to check out and pay my bill. Nice rooms with view of Tampa Bay and a nearby gazebo with parking overlooking the bay.
The rooms have been renovated and my suite had a reserved parking space which is important on this base where parking is always a premium. As with most Base Lodging locations, there are no elevators so you have to drag your bags up the stairs unless you are staying at the main lodging building.
One of the better rooms I have stayed at on any on-base lodging location in the world—just way too long to get checked out.
+ Received a 2-room suite with full kitchen and reserved parking spot (important since parking is a premium on this base)
+ Big stocked refrigerator and freezer for a hotel room with microwave and stove with cookware and utensils
+ Double bed was comfortable in cramped space but adequate
+ Convenient location on post near conference center and short walk to harbor overlooking Tampa Bay
+ Giordano’s Famous Chicago Style Pizza and Italian Beef Sandwiches can be delivered to your room from off base!
- Desk staff hit or miss—took 30 minutes to check out
- Reservations process was difficult and took too many e-mails to get it straight
- Would not allow extension of room on TDY during “spring break” due to non-essential/non-mission guests
- Must have a rental car to get to/from/around MacDill which is spread out and far from downtown Tampa
I have always stayed at MacDill Inn when conducting business in the Tampa area. The location is great and you can drive/walk/jog to the beach for a good sunset view over Saint Petersburg. The golf course also looks like fun. Certainly cheaper than staying downtown or off-base toward the airport on Dale Mabry Highway—especially during spring break (although my rental car was $111/day for a compact).
