Mac Arena Mar Barcelona Reviews
Free house and techno parties every night, all summer Jul 11, 2011
I've heard that drinks are expensive if you buy them, but you won't be in the minority if you bring your own and/or buy them from the beer sellers.
The music varies from night to night. Tuesdays are normally good, with a more varied and forward-looking playlist. Not easy listening, but can be excellent.
Since it is free and there's certainly no doormen checking ID, sometimes it can have more young Catalans creating a youth club atmosphere than a crowd focused on the music. Friday, I think, is usually worse for this.
Because of all the beersellers and the lack of bins nearby the DJ, it can also feel like you're dancing in a tip.
That said, I have given it four stars, because all of these things will pale into insignificance if you get there on the right night. They attract some really good DJs, it's free, while Barca clubs are usually quite expensive, and when it's good, it's really bloody awesome. And if you get yourself a good dancing position, you will find yourself surrounded by people just as intent on listening to the music and being taken away by it as you are (or as I am).
It's also pretty easy to get to, get the metro to el maresme forum, follow the signs to Forum, go through the gates, take a left and follow the road til you hear music.
As with everywhere, watch your bag.
