Maastricht Aachen Airport Reviews
Local airport Jan 31, 2009
Located just 23 km from my home Maastricht Aachen Aiport is a medium Local/international airport. In the early days the airport was much more busy then it is today. A lot of airlines left and went to nearby airports in Germany, because a lack of facilities at Maastricht. Also the cancelation of building the east-west runway was fatal for the airport, expantion wasn't a option anymore.
Ryanair flies from Maastricht with a scheduled service to Alicante and Girona. Especially during the summer season, the airport is also used by various charter airlines such as transavia.com. Wich flies to the island of tenerife spain.
It is also frequently used by private jets, especially during the annual TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair) in Maastricht. Airlines Blue Air, easyJet, Ryanair and Volareweb previously had services to Bucharest, Berlin, Valencia and Milan respectively.
Various cargo airlines fly from Maastricht Aachen airport, such as Air Bridge Cargo, Atlantic Airlines, Cargolux and Turkish Airlines which have scheduled services. A significant amount of traffic is also related to the presence of aircraft maintenance and painting facilities at the airport.
The Instrument Landing System (ILS) for runway 21 was upgraded to category III in 2008, which allows landings in very low visibility conditions. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the only other airport in the Netherlands that has category III ILS.
2 years president Bush landed at MAA with the airforce one.
