Ma La (spicy) seduction 麻辣誘惑
Ma La (spicy) seduction 麻辣誘惑 Beijing Reviews

This is a restaurant famous for its spicy hot foods, as evidenced by its name "Ma La seduction". Ma is "numb" and La is "spicy", sometimes the spicy hot dish numbs your mouth and lips. It's a small chain with several locations in Beijing. The one I went to was on the 7th floor of the Grand Pacific department store, not somewhere expected to find a good restaurant!
Two dishes are highly recommended, the first one "water boiled fish", cooked with one of the fishes of your choosing in a metal bowl of water and lots of hot red peppers. It was really good. Try to get one with a live fish (which they cook of course) for extra freshness. And ask them to show you the pot before cooking so you get to see how much pepper is in there. It's hot (spicy), but not as hot as I thought as long as you don't actually eat the pepper or peppercorns. This dish was 38RMB per Chinese kilo, so for a fish about 2 or 3 Chinese kilos enough for a table of 5 at leat, it's still a good price at about 100RMB. However, most dishes here cost 8-10 RMB, so you can really eat a lot of variety for very little.
Another very good dish is their new "crab eggs". It has a texture close to a pudding, and is the best crab eggs dish I have ever had.
