Free trolley rides between Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf and Aquarium Jul 17, 2016
I'm writing this as advice for those of you who will see Monterey during busy tourist season and/or weekends. You know how it is, you go somewhere downtown can't find parking. If you're like me and want to avoid the endless circling around or paying inflated parking fees close to attractions (Cannery Row or Aquarium) then this trolley in downtown Monterey may save you some bucks and a headache.

The trolley is free. It runs all summer long and on limited availability during the colder months. During season a trolley will pick up passengers every 10-12 minutes. Again, this is absolutely free. If you got a late start in the day and/ or the 2 hour street parking won't be enough for you, just park near the Fisherman's Wharf. You have two choices:

Parking Garages (some offer $7 a day deals) or the hourly rate parking lot right by the wharf. Whichever one you choose, the trolley stop is right by the garage or right by the custom house.

There are two routes to choose from. Either the Trolley Monterey which makes several stops throughout the downtown area and Cannery Row, OR the Monterey Bay Aquarium Direct Trolley, which will get you to the aquarium without all the extra stops.

The trolleys are electric and have charging station at some of the stops. Every once in awhile the driver will take a 5 minute break to recharge himself and the trolley. Get out, stretch your legs. You're in Cali and everything is more laid back here.

I recommend this form of transportation any day, especially since it is completely free. ;)

Yes. I believe it's the same company even. Everything is so close together here. So much different then the DC metropolitan area.

Thanks for the information!
I have only been to Carmel-by-the-sea in that area. I saw a bus that connected Monterey to Carmel. I don't think it was a free trolley but still very convenient!
