MOS Burger is a Japanese fast food chain which has about 1400 stores nationwide. They are somehow competing with bigger and more global chains such as McDonald's and Wendy's. On their storefront sign, under "MOS BURGER", it says "Japanese Fine Burger & Coffee". So how "Japanese" is MOS burger?? On their menu, along with regular-looking burgers with hamburger patties between buns, there are also items called "rice burgers". The buns are made of rice, and instead of patties, they have cooked shrimps or pork cutlets with miso sauce. Now that is original!

This time, I had a MOS cheese burger, which is more ordinary-looking with hamburger buns and a patty. But I found out that their patties are made from mixture of beef and pork. I am not a big beef eater, and I kind of liked this patty because it is light and didn't sit in my stomach like a brick... :) What I like about MOS is that they are very open about where all the ingredients are coming from. On a board next to the cash register, there was a list of producers from which they get their meat and veggies. They also claim that their meat come from animals grown without growth hormones. That is pretty good.

For those of you who love dense, beefy, hearty burgers, MOS Burger may be too lightweight, but if you are interested in trying a "Japanese Fine Burger", rather than walking into an oh-so-familiar Mac on the street of Japan, MOS might be a good way to go. I've got to try one those rice burgers next time. :)

I don't think they have a veggie burger, but they have a rice burger with "kinpira gobo(cooked burdock root)". Now that sounds pretty healthy, doesn't it? Lots of fiber, for sure, haha! :P
