We found this place pretty much by accident, our first stop outside of San Jose. We crossed the with the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, it was a lot later than we had planned and we hadn’t booked anything so we headed to Montezuma and stopped pretty much at the first place we found.

When we arrived (around 22:30), the person at reception came out to great us with a smile, we explained we needed somewhere to stay, they had space - job done! we were shown were we were to sleep and headed into town to find a refreshing beverage.

I mentioned that we arrived late, so until morning we had no real conception of where we were staying, until morning.... we were woken pretty early to a nasty screaming noise, obviously after trying to ignore it for 10 minutes we went to check it out - it was Monkeys (i love monkeys) it was then I realized what a fantastic little place we were staying in.

The hostel is build just off the road, but within the Jungle, the colors, sound and wildlife was not far away (monkeys Iguanas, birds etc). the hostel itself was on two levels downstairs was a small equipped kitchen and a large veranda which became the eating and socializing area. It was at this point i was handed my breakfast and some coffee (helped after the beverages the night before). Also downstairs was an outdoor shower, reception (someone there all day)and a bathroom, also with a shower (and warm water).

on the upper level was another veranda with hammocks, another bathroom with shower and i think it was 3 sleeping rooms with bunk beds - the room we had had 6 beds in total with clean sheets and pillows.

The whole place is very clean - cleaned every day throughout the morning/early afternoon by the lovely lady who makes breakfast.

The staff was also very good - always available and friendly - often if they were making up some food they would offer to share - a really good bunch. Oh and in the evening the place was "guarded" by a security, they had a safe in the office i used for the passport but generally i had no real concerns about anything getting stolen.

In summary this place was close to perfect for me, nothing too “bling bling” but at the same time I wasn’t screaming like a baby at cockroaches. everyone was friendly and helpful, the place is among whatever wildlife there is, it is 4 minutes to town, 5 minutes to the bar and 6 minutes to the beach.

Would 100% recommend.
