transit obligatoire? you would see this sign in every highway (autobahn) now and then if you drive around luxembourg - but why?  - well luxembourg for many drivers is just a drivethrough country going to the south and eastern part of western europe like belgium, france and some parts of germany but less people knew about luxembourg.   since i live for almost 4 years in germany, luxembourg is the first country i visited outside of it and the city of luxembourg als...

Touring the city

Well, as usual the day started out fairly chaotic. Even though I had plenty, plenty of time, since I like to stop on the way to work for a coffee, my car did not start and all the pushing that worked every other day ... well, of course today it did not. Ah, cars, never function the way you want them to. So, I threw the kids out of bed, woke my best friend and started everybodies day about 3 hours early then they had planned to get up. Finally my buddy decided to just give me a ride to work. A...

This day started soooo slow. I woke up around 10, after being in a "coma" for 8 hours. It was blowing storm outside, and I didn't hear nothing... talk about being totally out of it. HAHAHA. As usual I checked my computer for messages etc., before hitting the shower. What a delight that was... feeling refreshed again. :o)After getting dressed and stuff, Mike and I headed over to Alands place for some...ummm.. breakfast. For me it was more like breakfast, luch, dinner and supper all in one mea...

Today i managed my first sleep in for over a week :)In the afternoon I went on a sight seeing bus and hopped off at the Casemates boch,an old fortress carved into rock and is really beautiful. I started walking around it and noticed a sign saying 2 euros to go down into the catacombs. I paid my 2 euros and went inside, before going down there is another sign warning that people with heart conditions or claustrophobia should not go. The fort has many levels each filled with chambers and portho...

An unfortunately dreary day in Luxembourg
posted by:
Dec 25, 2005 - Jan 27, 2006
I moved on to see yet another friend, Christine, this time in Trier, Germany. While she was studying for exams, I decided to spend the day in the tiny country of Luxembourg, which was only 40 minutes away. Being one of those people who prefers winter over summer, I generally refuse to admit that any experience has been hampered by winter weather. Yet some of Luxembourg's charm was probably lost on me. The old town seemed as if a spell had been cast over it, snap freezing ever...

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is an odd place, sandwiched in between France, Germany and Belgium, it is tiny in size but big in influence, largely due to it’s tax laws and generous concessions to businesses.  It’s also very pretty.  We mainly came here to visit Anna, and conveniently Dave followed us (obviously the amount of time we spent in London wasn’t enough!).  Or more accurately we followed him, accidentally.  Anyway, we had a few days here.  On ...

For some reason, I decided not to stay in Eindhoven for Queens Day...based on how the weather turned out in Holland, it was a good thing I left.  When I arrived back in Holland, the main roads by my hotel were closed due to flooding.

I was looking for a destination to go with my friend.  We had a day to go somewhere and we ended up choosing Luxembourg.  I honestly knew nothing about the place except that it was a tiny country in Europe right under Belgium.  I later found out that they were the country with the highest GDP, like that means anything to me at the time though. It's funny because I dont really remember much about the place.  The strong memories for me about the place was the good wine in Mos...

My girlfriend Kaija had never been to Luxembourg so we decided to drive down there. Luxembourg is not that far away from Brussels, it is only a two hours drive and most of it is on the motorway - the tricky part is always getting out of Brussels. I had been there a couple of times but it had been a while since I stayed in the city of Luxembourg, so I was looking forward to explore the city again. I have mostly been driven through the country - especially going to Basel, but since I moved down...
