The largest city and the capital of Zambia is Lusaka. It is located in South Central Zambia approximately 5-7 hours north of Livingstone and the border with Zimbabwe. The city is densely populated in areas with heavy traffic at its rush hours. There are loads of expats living and working in the area so expect to see a mix of locals and expats at bars and restaurants. To get around use the blue inter-city buses (minivans) or hire taxis.
The central market bus station is a chaotic place with dozens of buses loading and leaving at any point. Many parts of Zambia are not accessible by plane so expect long bus rides from this station. The airport is safe and serviced by major and minor airlines for flights around Africa and into Europe.
Lusaka doesn’t have many signs remaining of British colonialism but there are some tourist sites where you can find some information. Livingstone shows more signs of the former British rule.
