Seen the cave? Hiked the park? Think you’ve done it all in Luray? Not so unless you’ve been to the zoo. The Luray Zoo is a rescue zoo which provides homes for many former exotic pets. No, the zoo is not large and does not have fabulous landscaped enclosures but the zoo’s purpose is to educate and rescue. The owners/keepers are on location and very interactive with the guests.

They have a HUGE collection of reptiles, lemurs, condors, porcupines, a tiger and more. There are animal demonstrations throughout the day. Do NOT miss the 3:30 snake show. Browse the gift shop and you’ll see some pictures of the zoo’s more famous visitors, including the late Steve Irwin.

If you have a hard time viewing captive animals, keep in mind that these animals were not pulled from the wild. You could always sponsor and animal to help with their upkeep and perhaps the zoo can purchase more land and grow.
