Versailles in Germany Feb 19, 2013
If you want to visit a typical baroque palace and not have to deal with the large crowds of Versailles, then Ludwigsburg Schloss is the place for you. If you have an afternoon to spend with your children, and want an amusement park to entertain themm then Ludwigsburg Schloss is the place for you.

This palace was built in 1704 and was the residence of some dukes and kings of Württemberg. The huge gardens are layed out pretty much the same as they were hundreds of years ago. Tours of the palace and its neighboring palaces are available for only € 7.00. If you don't want to go inside the palace you can just wander the vast gardens. They are very scenic with lots of flowers, fountains, and fancy designs. You can even roll down the hill in front of the palace, like I did many times as a child! :)

Part of the gardens is the Marchen Garten or Kinderreich. It's a fairy tale-based amusement park for children. There are some train and boat rides, Rapunzel's castle, eating places, etc there. I always liked it as a child. It's not Disneyworld or anything, but it's fun to spend an afternoon.
