Lucerne Backpackers Travel Reviews

Now we had a grudge with this place right off the bat as they messed up our reservation and when we called them they were completely booked..which forced us to spend a night in Basel. It's a good 15 minute walk from the train station. Its located inside a big building, its a pretty big hostel. It has a very cold feeling though, its not very inviting. We were in a 4 bed dorm, the showers were pretty good too. It was a very clean hostel, not much to complain about there. It had a good kitchen. But it wasn't fun at all, it was actually really boring. There were crying children in the halls at some points. It was right across from the lake, which was nice.

This hostel in general was a pretty good hostel but I didn't like it very much. It was fairly big and very clean (although they kicked you out during the day for cleaning) Bathrooms and showers were very clean. They had sinks in the hall ways for anyone to use for brushing teeth and doing makeup etc. Bunks beds were fairly comfortable but the blankets wern't very thick and I was pretty cold. All the rooms didn't lock but there were good lockers in the rooms so you could lock up all your stuff. You only got a key to the front door as there were no locks to indavidual rooms. There was a fairly large common rooms with lots of tables and a big kitchen that supplied all plates, cutlery, and cooking supplies etc. You could also store your food in the community fridge as long as it was labeled or else it would get thrown out. I didn't like this hostel because I found it very boring and I didn't meet any people. Also it was a family hostel so there were little kids out in the hallways and we heard a kid crying which we thought was kind of weird. It wasn't too far from the train station, about 20-30 minutes walk with no public transportation to get you there so you had to walk. The hostel was also on the lake which was pretty nice and I am assuming it would be very awesome in the summer. I also don't like this hostel very much because they messed up our reservation. We booked the hostel for a Saturday and Sunday but they had written us down for Sunday and Monday and we had to spend our Saturday night in Basel which we didn't want to. And when we got to the hostel on the Sunday the told us it was infact their mistake and we didn't get a discount or anything!

scnbenstein says: Something about this place will always stick in my mind, and that is because of one thing: small elevators. The best thing I can think of about this place is that it's so close to everything you need to be around, such as Lake Lucerne and the city center. The rooms are nicer than what you'd expec...

X_Drive says: This Hotel was built in 1872 and is one of about 80 along the lake front in Lucerne. It boasts 180 rooms and I am sure that in its heyday was one of the finest hotels around. Not that it isn’t still a wonderful looking hotel. It is clean and the staff is quite helpful. But I would have to say ...

meggy1017 says: Beware of this place. It lists itself as a four star hotel but it would barely be a two. The linens were dirty and the rooms are small. The dining area wasn't clean either. I thought oh well, I got a cheap rate. I found a great discount online and booked it about four months ahead of time. When...
