Great place to meet other travelers Jan 02, 2013
Lub'D Bangkok at Siam Square is a great and fun hostel. Upon arriving, I was greeted by the staff behind the counter, who was very nice and was able to answer all my questions about places around the area. He even offered me a shot of rice whiskey to taste.

The hostel has a very laid back atmosphere. The lounge area consists of a computer station with about 8 computers, that people are able to use freely (unless there's a line, in which case the usage is 30 minutes). There are also tables and chairs to relax in. The outside area of the hostel, which you come in and leave through, also has tables and chairs, as well as pretty lighting. It's a great place to sit and relax and talk with people you meet, while having a beer or snacks (which the front desk, which also doubles for a mini snack-bar/restaurant, offers). However, the items/dishes they sell seem to be overpriced, and even the bottled water costs 20 baht when it cost much less at the 7-Eleven close by.

The female dorms are fairly spacious for a hostel room, and everyone gets their own locker. Make sure to bring a lock, though, because the hostel doesn't provide them. Although I had a lock, I didn't really feel the need to use it since there were only 3 other people in the room and the room is only accessible by keycard entry. The beds are first come, first serve. For each day you stay in the room, you are given a piece of paper that you have to slip around the bedpost to indicate that the bed is taken.

There is a communal ladies bathroom which all the girls in each female dorm uses. There are only 3 shower stalls though, so make sure to get there really early or late, when there's not a lot of people.

Besides computers, the first floor also has books travelers can borrow during their stay, including literature and travel books. On the second floor, there's an entertainment room with a TV and DVDs, also a great place to relax after a long day sightseeing. Yet another floor has the male/mixed dorms.

It's really easy to meet other solo travelers at Lub'D. In my experience, the people I met have been really nice and had great advise to give on what to see and where to go in Bangkok and other cities. It's not hard at all to find a travel buddy to sightsee with.

The area around the hostel is excellent. It's a short distance walk right across the street from MBK Mall, one of the biggest malls in Bangkok. Also close by and within walking distance are other malls like Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery, Central World, etc. At nighttime, the streets around the area would be lined with venders selling food, clothes, and souvenirs.

THE best hostel ever :) Jun 18, 2012
Having stayed at both the lub d's in bangkok i found that they were run by the same management which was a pleasant surprise as they remembered who i was on my return journey!

the staff are very helpfull and enjoy getting you drunk on what i can only describe as the most disgusting rice whiskey ive ever tasted! And thats just the ice breaker :)

the whole hostel is designed to make socialising and safety the highest priorities.

it really is like a home from home.

each bunk bed has its own charging station so you can have your electrical items charging next to you while your in the room, and the shared bathrooms are the cleanest i found in the whole of thailand!

they organise nights out and sight seeing tours if you havent done so yourself which are good for meeting people, and they were that nice that when i returned 3 weeks later and had managed to find my key that id mislaid they gave me money of off the room for the night!

happy memories.

Best of everything including the price! Jun 19, 2011
I am raving about this hostel! It seemed to have thought of every possible need of a traveler and make it all available for a good price. I only paid 450baht per night for a 4 bed female dorm and that was incredibly cheap because the room is pleasant and clean and space is alright. Also, I'm only sharing with 4 other girls and the room itself has good amenities for charging your mobile/camera. There are 2 outlets beside each bed and also a light you could switch on which serves like a small lamp if you want to use one after the main light of the room was switched off.

Security is good. Each is given a card to use to enter the door towards your hall and inside your room. The hall for the girls dorm is restricted to girls only and so only girls will share the common bathroom as well.

The bed is pleasant to sleep in and the sheets (light and thick one) are provided to be used how warm you want to be considering it's an air-conditioned room.

The bathroom is common but adequate as I have not experienced needing to wait to use any toilet or shower. There must be at least 4 toilets and 4 shower rooms. Once you entered in the middle you see 6 wash basins to wash your face/ brush teeth etc. and you will immediately notice it's clean despite the fact that several people uses it. Everyday, someone cleans it well. There many places to hang your wet towel and also shelves to put your toiletries/make-up kit outside the around the common area. There are also 2 hair dryers for girls who wish to use them.

Each shower cubicle has hot&cold shower, shampoo and soap dispenser. The space is small but enough space to be comfortable.

Each toilet cubicle is clean and provided with tissue. Never experienced running out of toilet tissue.

There are laundry machines where you just pay 40baht for every use which is not expensive if you are going to wash several days of clothes and sharing the machine with another person like the sisters in my dorm room.

There are several computers available for use but wifi is available too.

What I like most about this hostel is the service they provide considering the check-in/check-out time do not usually coincide with your flight schedules. Just like other hostels, you may leave your luggage/bags before check-in or after check-out free of charge. But what is so special about this hostel is that even after you check-out, they will allow you to use the toilet near the reception and if you want to take shower, they will allow you access to shower room too! Wow, now, that's value added service.

My flight was midnight so I dont need to got to airport until about 8pm so I asked them about late check-out which they allow for additional 50% of room rate when you could stay until 6pm or in my case, until 8pm bec my flight is still too far. But the man on the desk recommended instead for me to check-out and just come back for shower if I want to bec he said they allow that and most of the guests take advantage of that service. Now, that's a really good service.

The staff in this hostel are very pleasant and very helpful while being efficient so I am all praises to them as well. Everything runs very smooth and the ambiance is really nice here to chill out and meet fellow travelers.

Highly recommended and will stay again if ever I'm in bangkok on personal expense :)

Clean, Location, Nice People, Nice Price Mar 15, 2011
This was the only place I stayed at while in Bangkok, so upon my return from the south I booked a private room, as I did a share in the beginning.

The dorms were clean, had lockers, electrical docks per bed, bet they were a bit small, a four person dorm had two bunk beds!!

The offered a movie room with large TV and dvds to watch, free. Never had to wait long to use a computer ( free hi-speed internet, wifi). Laundry room and inside court yard. A front terrace for socializing, and located in the main shopping area of Bangkok, with the train stop outside the door.

This the location is central bangkok so they do alot with a small space, but the people make up for it.

If there is a national holiday, there is usually some celebration or a group of people leaving from the hostel, all welcome to join in, not to raudy young and drunk, and not boring either!!

Really nice, clean, modern hostel in really good location near to shopping malls and sky train station. dorms maybe a bit too small but provide good lockers, air con and really nice beds which are few and far between in asia! Nice communal area and tv room as well as offering food and drinks 24/7. Will definitely go back there

Cheap stylish backpackers Jan 12, 2011
The hostel was new and quite hip. Its tiny from the outside so my driver had to do a couple of laps to find it.

Bar is open 24 hours and internet is free!

Air conditioned rooms and really clean.

The share bathroom is good.

Nowhere to cook but lots of amazing street food close by and huge shopping centre.

$3AU taxi ride to Kho San rd and across the rd from the train. Great location!

Best backpackers in thailand Jul 13, 2011
First of all you get greeted in such a friendly way you almost just want to give them a hug.

The staff are extremly friendly and there are people there helping you arrange trips or your further travels what ever they might be. We booked our trip to Phi Phi from here, and it all worked out smothely.

There are many backpackers here, having said that the bathrooms are spotless anyways, i found that very remarkable.

The dorms are nice and cool and dark and i didnt feel unsafe or woken up or anything of that sort for those days we stayed there. Its also very close to the Myanmar embassy.

The comunity area is great and a good place to meet fellow back packers.

They also have a storage area for your backpacks. And its close to patpong night market and snake farm and lumphini park, all wort seeing!

Its just perfect! hope you anjoy it like i did.
