Characteristically Bavarian Feb 12, 2013
The restaurant Lowenbrau, a Bavarian restaurant, stood out to us the moment we first visited The Rocks in Sydney. It's in a good location on the corner of Argyle Steet and Playfair Street in the oldest and most atmospheric section of Sydney main thoroughfare. Unlike the centre of Sydney which is reminiscent of New York or any other commercial, business city, The Rocks is the only place that is steeped in history and charm. That's why a bite to eat at Lowenbrau is a must!

The benches outside allow you to soak up the sunshine and the atmosphere. The staff are outfitted in traditional Bavarian Lederhosen. They are helpful and polite.

The menu's options all use the German names for the dishes with the English description below (Thank God! Otherwise, what would we Anglophones do!?). Traditional dishes such as schnitzels, pork knuckles, pretzels and anything you can imagine ending in 'wurst!'. The wonderful food is complimented by the native German beers they sell such as Spatan and a Mango beer which i tried and was delicious.

It is expensive (but probably not too expensive by Sydney's standards!). The starters range from $5-$10. The main courses are about $15-$30. The beers are $8.50 for 300ml, $12 for 500ml and $24 for 1 litre (and i'd get the latter just to hold that wicked huge glass) but in the Sydney sun i reckon the litre would get warm too quick!

...BAVARIAN STYLE...!!! Aug 15, 2010
Rocks area is the most stylish neighbourhood in sydney.

when i walked around rocks, and the hour was already after 15:00 i saw in the corner of argylle street an almost full beer academy.

i was already hungry and i didn't thought over last seconds, where i"ll eat.

all the staff were dressed as the octoberfest festival in munich, with the traditional clothes of bavarian culture.

the food was delicious. I prefered sausages - three different kinds- and from beers, paulaner weiss.

there are many labels to choose from authentic bavarian beers.
