Louisville (usually pronounced [\'luːǝvǝl] (help·info); see Pronunciation below) is Kentucky's largest city. It is ranked as either the 16th or 27th largest city in the United States depending on how the population is calculated (see Nomenclature, population and ranking below). The settlement that became the City of Louisville was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark and is named after King Louis XVI of France. Louisville is famous as the home of "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports": the Kentucky Derby, the widely watched first race of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Louisville is situated in north-central Kentucky on the Kentucky-Indiana border at the only natural obstacle in the Ohio River, the Falls of the Ohio. Louisville is the county seat of Jefferson County, and since 2003, the city\'s borders are contiguous with those of the county due to merger. Because it includes counties in Southern Indiana, the Louisville metropolitan area is regularly referred to as Kentuckiana. A resident of Louisville is referred to as a Louisvillian. Although situated in a Southern state, Louisville is influenced by both Midwestern and Southern culture, and is commonly referred to as either the northernmost Southern city or the southernmost Northern city in the United States.[2][3]

Lexington all the way to Louisville
posted by:
May 13, 2006 - Aug 24, 2006
This may not seem like many miles to travel in one day but is was a full day for us. <G> Following a quick breakfast we left the Kentucky Horse Park where we had camped over night.  There was many miles of meandering on the back roads so we could see as many horse farms with miles of black fencing and lush pastures.  Horses, barns, and the most fantastic entry gates kept us fully entertained.  We also visited a couple of race tracks in Lexington...The Red Mile and Keenlan...

Lindas Wedding
posted by:
May 24, 2007 - Jul 17, 2007
Although I had traveled to Louisville prior to this trip, the thrill of getting to re-experience the city was overwhelming. My best friend's sister has lived in Kentucky since her days in college and this was my third trip to see her; however, this was a special trip. I received a late night phone call months before explaining that Linda was engaged and to marry a wonderful man. I could not pass up the opportunity so I drove twelve hours for an experience that I will never forget. [Friday] Th...
