Encouraging the shopping with the Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Program Feb 19, 2009
As many big cities and other states, Louisians wants to encourage the shopping with a Tax Free Shopping Policy, which offers the international visitors tax-free shopping while traveling within the state. There are over 900 participating shops in the following areas:
-New Orleans
-Baton Rouge
-Lafayette
-Shreveport

How does it work?
You have to pay the full price (including taxes), but you will be given a voucher with your receipt. In order to get the refund, you have to go to a “Refund Center” (for example the one in the New Orleans Airport), present all vouchers and corresponding sales receipts, passport and international travel ticket. The refund is paid in cash up to US$500. If the refund is over $500, a check will be issued. Refunds can also be obtained by mail.
Tax Free Counter in New Orleans airport is located on the Upper Level of the main terminal. They are open daily (except Mardi Gras and Christmas) from 7am - 6pm.

You can check in the website, which shops are taking part of this program and be sure to have your passport with you when you are going shopping there. LTFS is available at well known retail stores such as Saks, Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Gucci, Gap, Sears, Wal-Mart, Coach, etc. And also include manufacturer outlets, other department stores, jewelry stores, art and antique stores, computers and electrical appliances...
