Los Olivos Cafe Reviews
Not Just "Sideways" May 26, 2010
Yes, Yes this restaurant is famous from the Movie Sideways where Miles and his buddies enjoyed tasty meals while discussing the fine nuances of wine. But for good reason! This place offers a great little menu of Californian-Mediterranean cuisine ranging from a butternut squash salad to salmon. If you are in the area, you must stop at this place for at least appetizers and wine. This is an amazing destination for those who are looking to escape the tourist hanging out at all the tasting rooms. Come for an afternoon and end up staying the weekend!
The Torta Rustica with turkey, smoked ham, spinach, roasted peppers and Fontina baked in brioche was a great lunch suggestion, but I opted for that Kobe beef burger and Jean-Noel had the pulled pork. Both were great. They also bring out this wine list that will just blow you away. We opted not to have wine because of all the tastings, but it looked like a dream of a list. The dinner menu also looked great. The waitress suggest that we come back in the evening and trythe Lamb Shank braised in red wine, tomato, sweet onion, and herbs, served with cous cous, market vegetables and natural jus, for a memorable dinner.
We sat outside, and if the weather is as beautiful as it was when we were there, I recommend you do the same. The service can be and was a bit slow, but we were not in a rush and it didn't really bother us.
